2012-13 Hunting Forecast from Texas Parks and Wildlife

Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine has published it's 2012-13 Hunting Forecast in its October edition.  From horns to feathers, the season ahead looks promising, thanks in large part to much better rains across most of the state.  For deer, the 2008, 2009 and 2011 fawn crops should be coming into full maturity and should offer an above average chance at harvesting some decent horns.  Since many deer were passed on last year, this year may offer a few more choices for those who put in the time to find them.  Waterfowl are already off to a good start as early teal season was "epoch".  The main duck season opener should be good for those with water.  And the ducks have cooperated with above average breeding across most of the various species.  Turkey and quail are next and early Spring rains have helped them as well.  Lots of bugs and cover for the young should help provide a new crop of birds for hunters into early Spring.  All-in-all, this is shaping up to be a decent year - on paper of course!
